We are Phlora.co
Hey. Thanks for stopping by. A little over a year ago we both qualified for our Michigan Medical Marijuana cards, and the world of cannabis became accessible to us in an entirely new way. As we tried new products, strains, and methods of consumption, it reinforced everything we have always believed about this plant – namely that it is a powerful catalyst for healing, well-being, relief, and even joy.
As lifelong professional photographers, it was natural for us to start documenting this journey with a camera. We started an Instagram account just for fun – iphone photos, nothing too serious. But then we figured, hey, this is something we believe in and are passionate about – why not do it up right?
We also noticed something else – despite major gains in the federal legalization movement, and more and more states going legal – there is still a lot of stigma surrounding cannabis usage. And that seems pretty absurd for an herb that is less habit forming or harmful than a glass of wine.
The narrative of the vacant, lazy, unproductive stoner is tired. We think cannabis consumers are ready for a new story. One that’s more inclusive and relatable to them.
So instead, let’s talk about the everyday cannabis consumer. The one who has been at the same job for 10 years and has 3 kids. The high-powered professional who finds creative solutions with the help of a sativa. The soccer mom with back pain. The veteran managing PTSD. The grandma with glaucoma. The overwhelmed new card-holder with no idea where to get started.
We want to create work that will help educate, inform, support, and normalize cannabis for them.
In order to do this, we partner with companies who want to tell authentic stories. While Phlora is a new endeavor for us, media production is not. In our non-cannabis life, we run a busy commercial studio that does over 3,000 photo shoots a year, focusing mainly on interiors, products, and lifestyle portraiture. We also created over 150 videos last year for clients.
We’ve been fortunate to work with a few companies so far and we look forward to meeting and connecting with other cannabis entrepreneurs. Our plan for this blog is to share our latest work, and our experience as medical marijuana patients in Michigan.
